    Can Dogs Eat Tamales

No, I wouldn’t recommend tamales for dogs. While we may enjoy this treat, they aren’t the best choice for our pooch, due to the combination of some ingredients and spices in it that can cause serious health problems for them. Don’t worry, stick with me as we explore why you should keep your pup away from this dish.

Why Are Tamales Bad for Dogs?

Here’s why this meal, no matter how tempting it is to share with your pup isn’t safe for them:

    Corn

Although corn itself is safe, tamales are made with corn dough which is mixed with butter, oil, and seasonings. These extra ingredients can make your dog have stomach upset and also make them vomit or have diarrhea.

    Meat

The dish is prepared with meat like pork or chicken, and the spices used can irritate your dog’s digestive system. Believe me, you do not want your pup to be at the receiving end of spicy foods as it can make them uncomfortable and even cause stomach upset.

    Fat and salt

Tamales have lots of fats and salt, both of which are bad for dogs. Too much fat and salt can lead to pancreatitis and dehydration. Well, in some cases, you may be dealing with salt poisoning.

    Obesity

This dish also contains a number of calories, and feeding your dog with too many will make them overweight. Gradually, the continuous intake will make your dog obese and further lead to other health issues like joint pain, heart troubles, and diabetes.

What other treats can I give my dog?

Do you want to make your dog happy and keep them safe as well? Then, try your hands on these options:

    Veggies and fruits

You can give them vegetables like carrots, green beans, or sweet potatoes and fruits like apples ( without seeds), blueberries, and bananas. These treats are both healthy and delicious.

    Cooked meals

If you enjoy cooking, you can make healthy meals for your dog. Focus on chicken, turkey, rice or oats, and lots of veggies. Just make sure you skip the spices that can harm them.

    Dog food

Meals made only for dogs is another option you can try to make it easy for your pup to get all the right nutrients. So, the next time you go on a shopping spree, find one that fits your dog’s size, age, and health needs to keep them at their best.

    Conclusion

To wrap it up, tamales are bad news for dogs. While we may enjoy it, they can be quite risky for our pooch and if you’re not sure about what foods are safe for your dog, don’t hesitate to reach out to your vet. They can give you some helpful hints on how to keep your puppy’s diet on point and their tummies full. But do remember to stick only to the healthy treat options, and you’ll be doing your puppy a massive solid!
